Favorite toys and games of 2012: Magna Color, Angry Birds, Hexbug Warriors, Oversight

Friday Finds (review + giveaway): my favorite non-digital toys and games

Favorite toys and games 2012 ~ Behavioral ChildOn February 10th, toy manufacturers, distributors, importers, salespeople, buyers, press, and bloggers will be flocking to New York to attend Toy Fair 2013, the “largest toy and youth product marketplace in the Western Hemisphere”. New lines will be unveiled, attendees will be wowed, bloggers will go home with suitcases full of goodies!

But before the new descends upon us (which it tends to do at an alarming pace), I’d like to take a moment to feature some of my favorite new toys… from 2012. Though they were quite of few great app-oriented games, in my Friday Finds this week, I’d like to show you some of the non-digital variety that I loved: Magna Color, Angry Birds, Hexbug Warriors, and Oversight.

3D Magic Magna Color : art with magnetic dots

Toys and games 2012: 3D Magic Magna Color by Tech4Kids ~ Behavioral ChildThe 3D Magic Magna Color helps develop hand-eye coordination, creativity, and aesthetic skills through an easy-to-use and easy-to-put away art station. It gets bonus points for the 3D glasses and the ability to show your child’s artwork in an amazing lifelike dimension.

The 3D Magic Magna Color game is available for $25.70 at Amazon and other toy retailers.

You can find more information about the 3D Magic Magna Color game at Tech4Kids’ lovely website. They have other cool games too (see the next one on my list). Be sure to follow them on Twitter and Facebook so you can be apprised of their latest news, freebies, and cool promos.

Angry Birds : they’re alive!

Toys and games 2012: Angry Birds Splat Strike by Tech4Kids ~ Behavioral ChildIf you or your child have been afflicted with ‘Birds-fever, you don’t want to miss this game. It takes the concept of Angry Birds (flinging and toppling) and brings it to you, live, in the form of sticky Birds flung unto a pinnable board. With a slingshot just made for it! Develops hand-eye coordination and infectious laugh.

The Angry Birds Splat Strike game is available for $22.99 at Amazon and other toy retailers.

You can find more information about the Angry Birds Splat Strike game, and other versions, at Tech4Kids’ lovely website. They have other cool games too (see the previous one on my list) and don’t forget to follow them on social media.

Oversight: a fast-past board game

Toys and games 2012: Oversight by Griddly Games ~ Behavioral ChildHelps kids with abstract thinking, teaches them to strategize and predict their opponents moves. Think tic-tac-toe with four pieces that gets increasingly more difficult as kids learn to plan their moves. This has become a staple in our family game nights!

Oversight is available for $19.15 at Amazon and other toy retailers.

You can find more information about Oversight at Griddly Games’ lovely website. They make very cool board games for different ages and aptitudes. Be sure to follow them on Twitter and Facebook so you can be apprised of their latest news, freebies, and cool promos.

Hexbug Warriors : futuristic robots in micro size

Toys and games 2012: Hexbug Warriors by Hexbug ~ Behavioral Child

These tiny, collectible, micro robots use the physics of vibration to propel forward and battle with competitors. They buzz when they do, too. Besides the interest in science that they elicit, they get a big thumbs-up from me for getting a certain girly-girl excited about battling robots and … bugs!

This particular version of Hexbug Warriors is available for $34.50 at Amazon and other toy retailers.

You can find more information about the various robots and bugs at Hexbug’s lovely website. Be sure to follow them on Twitter and Facebook so you can be apprised of their latest news, freebies, and cool promos.

My DD’s least favorite toy is a large baby doll my sister-in-law gave her. She has no idea how to play with it as it is too big for her to carry around comfortably. Thankfully my other sister-in-law gave us a rocking toy crib to put her in. I don’t think the doll has been out of it in months!

Oops. That is what I get for reading this on a tiny screen. My daughters LATEST (no least) favorite toy(s) is horses. Between friends and family she has a pretty unique collection going. A few traditional My Little Ponies, a Barnum and Baily show horse, a LARGE stuffed race horse, two small farm horses, and a fully decked out jousting steed (from the Premium Fantasy toy line at Target). Thankfully her cousins like them too and she gets to visit their collection at grandmas.
